Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the mothers out there! I hope ya'll had a good one!
I teach a sixth grade study hall and it is supposed to be a time for them to finish their homework. But after TAKS not many teachers give homework and the library books are already due back so it is like pulling teeth to keep the kids busy and quiet. One of the other teachers gave me the idea to have them make mother's day cards last week. So I gathered all the craft objects I could around my apartment and from around the school and I let them go. I was surprised that it actually kept so many of them occupied for four days! I was really so excited to see what they would end up with.

One girl came up with this one, "Mickey loves Minnie, Tiger loves Pooh, Dora loves Boots and I Love You!"
My school has a very large Hispanic population I had several cards to mom's in Spanish. I thought they were so cute as well!
Not all of the cards are what I'd consider "typical" mothers day cards. One of my girls decided to make it a really personable card by pointing out her mom's celebrity crush.

And finally, I almost died when I saw this one. I thought it was shaped an awful lot like a coffin but didn't really think much about it until he wrote, "Congratulations, you made it another year!" That's when I asked if it was a coffin. He explained to me that it was and that she wouldn't freak out about the card because she loves coffins. Alright, I guess I'll have to take his word for that. He also said he plans on putting a picture of her on the inside. I mean, it's not a card I'd want to receive, but maybe this lady really is that type of person?!?

Well, most of the cards turned out to be really nice anyways!
On another Mother's Day related note. I don't know if I have ever mentioned that the Virginia group all moved here (along with others that aren't on the kickball team) to make movies. Well they made a Mother's Day related short. It is really funny, possibly a little offensive, but funny. It was featured on the front page of funnyordie.com two different times this week (I hear that is not easy)! Just know that I asked these guys and they said the gun is a pellet gun, it's water in the beer bottle and the kid's mom was standing right beside the camera the entire time. It's called "Uncle's Day," and the uncle is one of the members of our kickball team. Enjoy! http://www.whodoyouknowhere.com/uncle.html
