Visitors Near and Far

Yes I am just now getting a chance to write about last weekend. This past week was my last week before going back to work. In celebration of the last week, I decided take a break from blogging, and well anything that remotely resembled work. But seeing as to how I will officially be back at work in less than 12 hours, I am now slowing shifting gears back to work mode.

Last weekend there were all kinds of people visiting from out of town. First, last Friday Melissa and Craig came in town. This is their typical greeting.
Actually it isn't the typical greeting. But it was funny none the less. They did this wave in perfect sync (they swear they don't practice, I don't believe them).
We had lunch at the Salt Lick in Driftwood, Texas. What great barbecue! I guess if you are going to be in the middle of nowhere you may as well make something good to eat.
We then made our way to the outlet malls in San Marcos where I got some amazing deals on some much needed clothing. That's always fun!
After dinner at Guerro's Taco Bar on Congress, we went downtown and met up with Erin (and a bunch of other people that were friends of her friends).

We also met up with Miguel, Emily, Johanna, Colin and George.

George is Emily's husband. His mom's side of the family is from Portugal. Miguel and Johanna are George's cousins that were in town from Portugal. They were a really nice couple! My favorite part about them is that Miguel uses the catch phrase "very nice" (said in full Borat style) quite frequently.

In celebration of all the out-of-towners we took them to Que (the bar where the dance floor is a shark tank). Colin also decided to show off his break dancing moves. Except he didn't have any. He would go out in the middle of the dance floor and do the steps that they do just before they get on the ground and do the real breakdance moves. But when it was time to actually bust out the moves on the ground he would just walk off the dance floor.

There was apparently many other guys at the bar that got a kick out of this and also wanted to prove they didn't know how to break dance. So they got in on the "not really break dancing" action. If you can't tell, they were having a great time (as were we watching them).

While Colin was breaking it down, he had me hold/wear his hat. This is myself, Johanna and Emily.

Unfortunately, my night didn't end with watching some of the best break dancing Austin has to offer. Instead, it ended with a late night swim with Erin's friends. I showed up and they gave me a diet coke mixed with (you're really not going to believe this) red wine. I know you won't believe me until you try it, but it is actually really good! Though I should say, this was after several drinks. So what it will taste like the next time I try it, who knows. I do know this, people mix white wine and sprite and we don't bat an eye. So maybe red wine's match is diet coke, we just wouldn't have ever thought it to be so.

The next day hurt a bit waking up, but we did it all in the name of floating the river. Erin and I met up with her husband and several of his college friends (and their friends). We had a really good river float. Especially good since Josh didn't get arrested. We were just relaxing and talking when I heard yelling. Then we saw that Josh was in a yelling match with some older guy that lived on the river. Why that guy decided to post up on the edge of the river next to a bunch of drunk people that obviously tick him off, I don't know. I think he likes to give himself high blood pressure. But they finally resolved the issue and we had a great rest of the trip.

After the river we went to dinner and then over to one of the guys that floated the river's house. He was in college at Texas State. Let me just say his house gave me a new found thankfulness of not being in college anymore. They had just moved in the day before and there was already a layer of dirt on the walls (I'm sure that it was there before they moved in). Maybe they hadn't finished moving the furniture over there yet, but the seating in the living room consisted of a bean bag and three bar stools. Our table as we played three man was a towel that they laid out on the floor. And someone set a sheet on top of a candle while we were there and nearly burned the kitchen down. Maybe I am glad to have moved on beyond that part of the college days. Though I am still a bit jealous of the schedule, lack of responsibilities and endless partying.

Though, looking back at this weekend, it did come close to resembling the days college partying!
