I think I am going to have to come up with a new way of naming the kickball posts considering that the teams all have the same name!
Well this last week we played Sir Kix-A-Lot. We had the same record as them going into this weeks game (2 wins and 3 losses), so quite the match-up!
The ref gave us one task, to grab the ball before it went into the creek. I was playing in the outfield next to the creek. My thought was, great, so even when it is a foul I've got to run my butt off to get the ball. Naturally, it went that way quite a few times. I might not have caught a single ball this game, but I did stop a lot of balls from going into the creek (and it brought back memories of being a kid since we had a creek behind our house)! Unfortunately, no points are awarded for stopping the ball before it reaches the creek. I'd say I was the MVP for not letting the ball go into the creek.
Well, that is, until the ball went into the creek. Opps. But there seriously was NO WAY I could've gotten the ball in time. It went straight from the guys foot to the tree above the creek (where it stayed for a few teasing moments) then straight down into the creek. The ref had a spare ball in his truck (conveniently parked half a mile away and not blown up). So while he ran and pumped the ball of air, the guy from the other team that kicked the ball into the creek carefully made his way down the cliff to the creek to fetch the ball. It really brought me back to my childhood days at that point. He came back covered in mud and wet, oh, and with ball in tow! He even beat the ref back (and we had to spend the next 5 minutes calling him back to the game).
Anyways, after the fifteen minute break, we had a rather short game. Sir Kix-A-Lot had an early lead. They scored like 3 or 4 runs before we could do anything. But one of our team members finally got us on the board. The next inning I went up to kick first. I made it to first. The next person kicked a pop up and it was caught. Then Marcel was up after that, and he kicked it way into the outfield! I had been waiting on first to make sure that the other team didn't catch it, so he ended up right behind me. He nearly ran me over, in fact. We spent the entire time running around the bases with him yelling, "Go, go, go, go, go!" But we made it and we each scored before the team could get the ball back home! So yay! Another score for me! I guess I should say, thanks Marcel!!! (not that Marcel reads this, but I should give him thanks anyways)
As great as that score was, it was our last score of the game. The other team made a few more and the final score ended up being 7-3. Bummer. So I guess we won't be making it to playoffs this season. But that is honestly alright by me. There have been so many people that have been out and don't find subs, that we are kind-of ready to be done with this team. They don't put the effort into making this team win, so why should we care when we don't? It's kinda sad this team hasn't been the best, but that's the way it goes. We had an amazing team with the Bad News Brews. They kinda even each other out. Maybe next season we will get another amazing team!?!
