Last night I met up with some of my work friends and went out. They mostly live in the San Marcos or Kyle area, so they typically go out in San Marcos. I met up with them in "the square" at the Texas Music Theater (TMT for short, clever people since it's a country place).
First things first, I get to the door and hand the guy my ID. He makes me take it out of the wallet, which doesn't happen often, but whatever. Then he stares it and me down. Turns it back and forth several times. Then puts a flashlight on it and turns it up and down. I was in such shock by this, I haven't seen someone stare down an ID of mine, probably, since I actually had a fake one some eight years ago! I didn't even know how to react, or what to say. I just stood there (probably looking underage, except for the fact that I DON'T LOOK UNDERAGE). But then, THEN, he asks how I SPELL MY MIDDLE NAME!!!
I almost couldn't even spell my middle name. I stuttered and fumbled through it. Y'all I hadn't had any drinks (yet)... I was just in shock by this!
But he let me in, whew! Close one, geez!!!
And I walk in to find that the only customers in this entire joint is just my five friends.
Maybe they should re-consider their screening practices, it might make for more customers, haha!
No, but in all seriousness, it was 9:30 in a college town; in, what we'd find out, was a college hangout. No one in college goes out at 9:30. So we were alone in there and the door men were just bored, I'm sure, and decided to mess with me probably because I am WAY older than their normal customers.
But here's a picture of us:

But we did convince the DJ to play all old rap music and we were having a blast!
Then the college people showed up, and they changed the music back to country. Which was fine, it just made for some of the best people watching I've gotten in a while!
(Sure, we're a little old to hang around a college place. But the drinks were cheap, and given where we were, we weren't going to escape them no matter where we went.)
I had no idea that Texas State had such a big country music following, I am not sure why I wouldn't guess that SOME were, but I just didn't. But they were REALLY good country dancers!
There is no way I could have kept up with most of them, ever. I even saw one couple out there literally doing FLIPS over each other!
And being old as we were, and out of touch with current things, we nearly flipped out when we thought they had organized some sort-of flash mob dance.
In actuality, apparently, the song "Copperhead Road" has a line dance that goes with it. And apparently, according to google, this dance has been around since at least 2006.
Huh, who knew???
And I found it very interesting that when they weren't playing country music, they played mostly older songs. I also found it interesting that none of them knew how to "Dougie." But they all knew the YMCA. It was a very strange place...
When we started off the night we had two tables. After it got more crowded, we went down to just one. Then it was just half of the one table. We finally left when it got so crowded that we actually couldn't even sit in our seats anymore.
I am telling you, country dancing is alive and well in San Marcos, Texas!
