We beat Texas Tech!!! On their turf! If the facts I looked up were correct, it's been 16 years since we've beat them on their turf and 5 years since we've beat them altogether. That is a great accomplishment in my book.
Besides the fact that we can't ever seem to beat them, it's a great victory because they are my least favorite team.
(I apologize to any of my Tech friends that may be reading this...even though they should've known better based off the title. But yes, they are my least favorite team. AKA...my most hated team.)
Just to make it better I've been talking trash about Tech to current interest for the entire football season. Pretty much any time I talk about the Aggies (or football in general), just for kicks, I throw in how much I hate Texas Tech. You just can't cover that base enough in my book. I even asked him if he would join in my hatred, he quite easily obliged.
As much as I hate them, I (and I am a little ashamed to say this) had seriously NO FAITH in the Aggies being able to pull off this victory (remember it's been 16 YEARS since we've beat them on their turf, and we haven't had the best season so far).
But last night I was over at Emily's house and decided what the hell, why not listen to the game for a little while. Only, her computer wouldn't correctly download the program you need to do that (stupid Mac computers...haha, just kidding. I know they are great. But for whatever reason hers wouldn't cooperate for me last night.). So the only other option is to "watch" it using Gametracker.
Have any of y'all ever followed a game with Gametracker? If not, let me fill you in on how ridiculous this thing is. It has a computer animated drawing of a football field. It shows you the line where the ball is at and the first down line. You stare at this football field and these two lines for about an average of five minutes between each play, then these little cartoon men show up with a football. They look worse than some of the football players the original Nintendo gaming system have. Seriously, they have no arms and one leg and glide across the field. They only put two (maybe three if they are passing) men on the field at a time. One for A&M and one for Tech. I mean, it's better than just watching the score go up. But it is a terrible way to have to watch the game.
But I did it. For three hours. I watched with just the same enthusiasm as I would being at the game. I yelled and hollered for my little maroon Nintendo man. And my maroon Nintendo man did not disappoint! Sometimes, because they are lacking arms, I wouldn't be quite sure if we caught the ball or not. But I'd figure it out when the score would change or the line marking where the ball was located changed.
My only complaint now is the lack of coverage the game got. I understand not televising it (though I think they should've, we are big rivals). But they barely mentioned it on Sports Center. And I know I live in Longhorn Country, but they didn't even mention it on the local news! They mentioned other big 12 teams outcomes, but not A&M and Tech!?! That's absurd. Texas only beat Tech by ten points this year. And we just blew them out of the water. They should take notice of this. Especially since we do occasionally take Texas by surprise and beat them when we aren't expected to. I'm not promising anything, but I think they should at least take notice!
Anyways, I am proud of the Aggies! We need to keep this up. And during the next non-televised game, you should definitely check out Gametracker because it is hilarious!
But I would definitely keep the radio on. Because I'm still very unsure what REALLY happened most of the game! But at least I had the jist of what was going on....a good old fashioned beating of my least favorite team!!!
I find it hilarious that you were cheering on your little maroon Nintendo man! :) You Aggies are committed people.
