Cruise- Part 2

Okay y'all, it's been over 36 hours since I stepped off that ship and I have yet to get the feeling of being on the boat to go away.  This is getting serious, I looked it up on google (always a bad place to look up symptoms) and it turns out I might have this:

"Mal de Debarquement Syndrome (MdDS) or disembarkment syndrome is a rare disorder of perceived movement that most often develops following an ocean cruise.  MdDS persists for months to years."

Huh, neat.

Lets just hope it goes away and turns out to not be that...

But on the good side, everyone agrees that something that helps this problem is being in a car.  And I am going to be in a car for 12+ hours tomorrow on my way to visit my mom in Georgia.  So PLEASE, let that do the trick!!!

Back to the cruise, we got off the ship in Cozumel and went straight to Paradise Beach:

Paradise Beach was a really cool place with all kinds of beach fun all melded into one.  In the ocean they had all this stuff:

You may think this stuff is just supposed to be for kids, and I am sure it is, but we wanted to do it anyways! Plus, we got to this place before most people did so it's not like we were on it with kids or anything.  So we swam out to the far slide.  The swim was way further than it looked!  And climbing that slide was the scariest moment of my life, plus when you got to the top it was windy and the waves were making the whole thing sway.  You can't tell by this picture, but I am wanting to cry and get down!

(I am on the far right, by the way.  And I realize the picture looks like it is circa 1985, but that's just because it was taken from this old technology they call disposable cameras.)
Then we hit up the trampoline, which none of us had any energy to enjoy after swimming all the way out there and having the pleasure of climbing the slippy-ist straight-up climb of a slide there ever was.

So there was some much needed Dos XX's calling our name on the beach.
Then, they convinced me to go out on a boat and snorkel.  I was hesitant because I still wasn't over the traumatic experience of swimming and going up the slide.  So I asked them to leave me on there and I'd watch all of our stuff.  To which they responded, "we are NOT going to leave you by yourself on a beach in Mexico."  So for lack of wanting to be the party pooper, I decided to join.

I actually asked our "tour guide" if I didn't like it if I could get back out of the water and into the boat.  He responded with, "no, you just follow me."

And I just put that thought behind me.

I had SOOOO much fun snorkeling!  When I first got out there I thought I was never going to figure out how to breathe.  But I did, and I could have snorkeled all day long!  I think I will always go do that every time I go to a nice beach from now on.

(And I don't know what I am doing in this picture, waving AND karate, I think.)

We saw snorkelers.

Piranha (not shown)

And SHARKS - but just the sand kind.  There's two in both of these pictures:

Here we are in the boat on the way back to shore:

After that, I saw that they had a paddle board on the beach.  I have always wanted to try paddle boarding, people do it on Lady Bird Lake in Austin all the time.  So why not do it now while it's free and I am feeling all adventurous?

Here's what paddle boarding is supposed to look like:

Thank goodness I left my camera to Homann, who wasn't feeling well after the boat ride.  Because she missed any action shots of me actually up on the paddle board.  But I can guarantee you it didn't look anything like that!  It is so hard to balance yourself in the rocky ocean plus when you paddle it just throws you off more, I fell so many times.  So I finally called it a day and sat and paddled back, here's that:

After a few more Dos XX's on the beach, we left to go get food.  We were planning on Margaritaville, but the cab driver had a great recommendation of "La Mission" just a few blocks down.

Strongest margarita ever!

We all got the "Combination Plate."

We then walked around town; shopped and took fun pictures.

Then because we had a little more time we stopped at Fat Tuesday's and Dave bought us all a tall Hurricane AND a shot!  And our waiter loved us so he threw in name tags and beads for us...

Then we had to head back to the ship.

Y'all, I made a bee line straight for my room and when my head hit the bead, I was OUT!  I woke up a few hours later and attempted to eat dinner, but it wasn't happening.  So I went straight back to bed, and I slept for 12 hours straight (on top of the two before)!

Cozumel was a great time!  It was by far our favorite part of the trip for all of us!!!

  1. Loving all the pics! How brave of you to try the paddle board in ocean water. I have not even been brave enough to try it on the lake.
