Let me first remind you that I usually title my kickball game blogs with the name of the opposing team. This is one of those team names that makes me think I should start considering other titles for these blogs!
This week's game started with several people stating they would not be able to make it. We found a couple of subs for those people. But one of the subs got lost trying to find the field. Also, one of our regular teammates was running a little late. When all was said and done and it came time to start the game, we had a total of nine people. That's enough to still play, but not enough to fill the field, which takes ten people to fill.
So we started the game playing in the outfield and down one player. The other team, Why Are My Balls So Red?, didn't even drink the entire time and was REAL serious about playing this game. We on the other hand, arrived early to drink and cook out. So we were full and at least tipsy. And short one player (in case you forgot).
I think they got something like five runs that one inning. Not only did our entire team play bad, but I played bad as well. I missed out on catching two balls that came my way (it is really hard to tell where those things are going). So there goes my catching streak. Those misses also resulted in a run or two. And I think I got to first base once, but that is about it. But literally everyone on our team played bad.
One person on our team, Marcel (the guy I ran into last week), did manage to get one run in. Thank God, cause otherwise it would've been REAL embarrassing getting shut out!
Near the end of the game we were all questioning when the Mercy Rule kicks in. It was seriously THAT bad of a game! We did finally get our other two team members there, but we couldn't reverse the damage that had been done. I think what also got us was the fact that our two funny men, Doug and Paul, weren't there to cheer us up! They did a good job of keeping our spirits high the week before even though we were losing, which helped cause it kept the game close at least.
The Austin Sports and Social Club actually featured the team we played last week in their article of the week. That game against us was mentioned as being, "a nail biter as teams traded run for run, drink for drink in the early innings." Unfortunately, they would not say as much about us for this week's game.
After another one of the horrible innings and as we drug ourselves away from the outfield, I said, "Are we done yet?" It was meant to be a question for my teammates just to show my frustration for the game. But I guess the ref heard, cause I looked his way just after I said it and he was looking at me, then his watch, then back at me and nodded "yes." I think it was one of those things where had it had been a close game, we would've kept playing. But that was clearly not the case.
When it was all said and done, we lost 13-1. OUCH. That hurts to even type. Better luck next week, I guess.
So to end this on more of a positive note, here is a little something from the Virginians of the past kickball team. I think I may have mentioned before that they make videos (haha). Anyways, they put out a new one and on Saturday it was featured on funnyordie.com as the user picks favorites. I do want to warn you first though, what they are rapping about is a gross topic (that I've never even heard of) and there are some parts that are a little over the top. But it's still funny, can't deny that. Maybe it's just cause I know these people now and watching them do anything (especially rap) is hilarious to me. But I will say this, they come off as being totally different in their videos than they are in person. They really aren't vulgar and gross in real life. They are only like that in the name of comedy! Anyways, watch, enjoy! Whodoyouknowhere.com's Upper Deck Crew video.
