M.C. Hammered: Again

So this isn't the same M.C. Hammered we played last time. They apparently re-use names each season (in fact, there is another Bad News Brews on our league, too bad we don't ever play them). Actually, it could be the same team, but none of us noticed. Not that we would have. I went back and looked at my last M.C. Hammered blog, turns out it was the team that we went and got margaritas before and drank pink panty droppers during. They were undefeated and we almost lost the game due to the amount of alcohol we consumed.

This "new" M.C. Hammered hadn't won a game this season. After suffering two loses in a row, that is just the team we needed to play (as long as we won). They pulled the same move we did last week, showed up with about eight players (you only need six, but ten fills the field).

We however had a great turn out. We even had a cheering section! Chelsea came in town for the game (which was awesome). She even wore a yellow shirt for support (too bad the opposing team was yellow too). And Marcel's girlfriend bought pom-poms for the event!

They FINALLY let me off the hook for kicking first. Thank goodness! Though I will say, that always made it easy to know when I was up to kick. But I like not being first better. Twice I got to third base, which is pretty good for me! But we'd get the last out before I could make it home. One of those outs was them tagging me. But hey, I was the closest target for the short kicked ball.

For some reason the team felt they would leave me ALL of left field for myself. There were three people in right field. But this is super social kickball so I didn't want to be that person yelling at people and telling them to move. So I decided I'd hold down left field on my own. But for some reason no balls came to left field! So I guess they knew what they were doing. The only play I had to make was when one of our teammates tried to tag a person running around third, they missed. And the ball went flying into the next waiting team (aka the mean-looking team we played last week). So I had to maneuver myself through their crowd hurriedly to get the ball and throw it back to the team. That was a bit stressful. I honestly couldn't even tell you how that turned out in the end. I know the one guy running around third scored a run, but I don't know about the other person.

We did have an injury on our team this week. Our catcher, Nicole, and our pitcher,Doug, both went for a pop-up that was far infield/close to being foul. They didn't see each other and ran straight into each other. Since Doug is significantly bigger than Nicole, things did not turn out well for her. She laid on the ground not moving for what felt like an eternity to me. But she did get up eventually and sat out the rest of the game. She fell pretty hard on her head. Not the best place. But she walked out of there saying she was fine. No signs of a concussion were present, so I think she will be okay.

The final outcome of the game ended up being that we won 10-3!!! I like how we either win by a lot or we lose. No middle ground for us. I think the other team this week was doing the begging for the mercy rule.

It was funny because when the team from last week came out you could just see the difference in their presence from the team this week. That team looks scary. They had a ball that bounced out off the field and over our crowd. It was still in play, but this one guy from that team was out of control. I think Chelsea almost got trampled! And when he returned and the ball was no longer in play, nothing was said to Chelsea. Not a "I'm sorry," nothing! It was ridiculous. If you are knowingly running over women, you are taking this WAY too seriously! It is super social, they need to join another kickball league if that is how they are going to play!

Afterwards we all went to Doc's on South Congress. After a few pitchers of beer, one short game of shuffle board, a few nachos and a lot of laughs; we went home. I was glad Chelsea got to make it and see a good game! If you visit her blog, she actually has a video of me kicking the ball! I was a little sad that she didn't get to experience flip-cup though. I got a message that was sent way earlier inviting us to come play flip-cup just after we had gotten ready for bed. She might think flip-cup is some myth I've made up. Like it doesn't really exist, and we never really play. Haha...one day she'll catch it right and get to play with the team!
