We got on a tour bus and drove a little bit through the town of Monaco and on some of the very streets of the Grand Prix de Monaco. Then the huge bus headed up into the narrow streets of the mountains- beautiful views but not for those with a weak stomach!
Monaco-Ville (Old Town) on the raised rocks- where the prince of Monaco lives
Stop #2 on the other side of Monaco
We then made our way to Eze-le-Village. I would really love to come back to this cute little village someday, it had lots of cute little shops and a part of the town dates back to the 14th century with cute cobblestone streets. We didn't have enough time to explore it all but we got a taste of what was there.
Eze-le-Village
We then drove onto Nice (pronounced Niece). By this time I was a little motion sick from driving through the winding roads and I am sure our tour guide said some wonderful things about this village and I would love to go back to it too, but about all I heard was Elton John had a house there and the beach was rocks (like size of your fist).
Nice's finest hotel- Hotel Negresco
Then we headed back to Monaco- thankfully along the coastal road and not through the mountains (though they were beautiful). Here's some pictures looking back at Monaco from the cruise ship.
The Monte Carlo Neighborhood
The Monte Carlo Casino (green roof)- feature in many James Bond movies
Look at the size of the yachts- or shall we call them small cruise ships???
The next day we arrived in Marseille, France. We were mostly in the bus for this tour, just a few short get out and walk around opportunities.
I thought they put this picture in front of this building as they renovated the building maybe, but our tour guide didn't mention anything of the sort. Weird thing #1 Marseille...
Palais Longchamp- beautiful fountain celebrating the arrival of fresh clean water into the town but I can't help but question the obnoxious PINK dolphin.
Mom and I in the Old Port area
Fishing village & popular hangout (so our tour guide said)
Old Port
I really don't understand you Marseille...
Cathedral de la Nouvelle Major
And that rounds off the French portion of the trip... more to come on the rest of Europe!
