So I have been a bit MIA on my blog a lot lately. I am meaning to be better, and for the past couple of days I wanted to write something but had nothing I could think to write about.
That is until now. Chelsea wrote a blog yesterday that brought up an old memory of when I won second place at the Invention Convention contest at my school. It's not like I think this is all that of a riveting story. But let's be honest, those that know me know that I have a bit of a hard time keeping my stories short.
So when Chelsea sent me a text message tonight asking for me to reveal my "genius invention" (though I don't think those were the words she wrote, I KNOW it's what she meant...haha), I knew I couldn't keep it in the confines of the blog post comments and definitely not within a text message.
If you haven't already read Chelsea's blog and would like to know where all this came from, you can catch up
here.
So my grand invention was a table that would hold a book and that you could place across your bathtub. Like I mentioned on her comments, it is something that I once saw in SkyMall Magazine (well after I had already invented it, of course). Though, I couldn't find it on their online website, I did find one on Amazon.com. This is what theirs looks like.

Mine was not as "whittled," you might say. Mine was a heavy rectangular piece of flat wood. I may not have come up with the idea to have a back stand that propped the book up. But I did come up with the idea to have wooden flaps underneath that could be folded out and suddenly you had a table you could use in bed or while sitting on the floor. I will point out that they have this design available in stores as well. But never have I seen them combine the two, that design is still a Jenny Jones original.
And how, you might say, would a sixth grader put together this wood shop of a design? Much help from my dad! I remember it took us quite a while to cut, put together and paint that thing! But it was well worth the effort, in return I got a 10 cent blue ribbon that had a generic "2nd Place Winner" written on it.
And if you were wondering what the first place winner invented, it was a shield (pulled from a motorcycle helmet) that you put over your face while you sprayed your hair with hairspray. I have never seen that appear in the SkyMall magazine, but if an era of hairspray like the 80's ever returns, I have a feeling something like it will make it's debut!
HA! that's so funny. I had a 4th grade invention make it into the year book too...I took a koozie and put and leather necklace through it so you could drink with a straw handsfree! KOOZIE Necklaces for all!!!
ReplyDeletei was an early boozer apparently.
Haha!! That's hilarious. And I would really use that if I had one probably.
