Bad day of work - revisited

If you haven't read my "Bad day of work" blog, you should before reading this one. Just a heads up.

But I got a call from the owner of Haute Baby today. She said that the same lady who stole from the store while I was working came back today! She said she recognized her right off when she walked in (I told you I gave a description worthy of a police sketch). Her suspicions were confirmed when the lady gave the same name and said she had started a registry with us the week before.

So Margaret, the store owner, said she watched her like a hawk. This time the lady had a sweater draped over her arm and was stuffing the clothes under the sweater. Margaret said she almost didn't even see her do it because she was so sneaky about it. But the lady so happened to drop an article of clothing, bent over and placed it back under the sweater. That is when Margaret went over and asked her if she wished to put it on the registry. The lady laughing said, "oh this sweater?" Margaret pointed out the baby clothing underneath and the lady acted like she didn't know it was there.

When the lady left, in her Mercedes, Margaret got her license plate number and called the cops. She also called another baby clothing boutique that is just down the street. The lady working there said she had been in earlier that day and stole from them as well. She also did the same run-around with seeming interested in everything in the store.

The cops said they would get in touch with her. I hope that will be enough to keep this lady away in the future. It would be nice if she had to suffer some kind of consequence, but that would just be wishful. At least I feel I helped at catching this lady. If Margaret had never been tipped off about her she may have never noticed her stealing, and who knows how long that could have gone on. I can now rest assured that my manner of handling the situation was effective at catching the lady.
